From pirates to princesses, I’ve seen it all - here are my top picks

Superheroes, princesses, Jedi’s, Pokémon, dolls, fairies, trolls, pop stars, clowns, unicorns. I have seen - and been - them all. There are as many themes for a child’s birthday party as you can dream of, and probably more!
Having a theme for your kid’s birthday party really helps give a central uniform focus and celebrates your child and their special interests. It also helps keep the kids engaged, for example, a Pokémon or Jedi party can become ‘Pokémon trainer training - gotta catch ‘em all’ or ‘Jedi school with lightsaber battles’. A pop star party invites sing-a-longs, dance-offs and catwalks.
Popular themes kids adore
Princesses and superheroes never get old, especially with a younger crowd. But if you’re not into Disney and Marvel, consider a more neutral yet timeless character like a fairy or a clown. Personally, I prefer these characters because they leave more room for imagination and play, rather than the rigid mimicking of a movie character.
Older children often like more specific themes based on people and characters from tween culture like Taylor Swift, Descendants, Harry Potter, Hello Kitty and Barbie. Or an action-oriented theme like a disco, slime making or circus skills.

Unique themes I’ve brought to life
Some of the more uniques themes I’ve brought to life are Minions, ‘winter wonderland’ and roller skating Christmas bauble…
A minion character is fun and silly and there’s a lot of shouting ‘BANANA!’ which the kids love, speaking in gibberish and banging into things. Come to think of it it’s pretty similar to being a clown!
‘Winter wonderland’ was a tricky theme because of it being so vague. I chose a formal entertainers costume (shirt and pants, sparkly silver waistcoat, blue bow tie and accessories) and matched the decorations very well. Activities included musical freeze, ‘Let it go’ sing-a-long with Elsa attitude and frosty-themed face painting.
The roller skating Christmas bauble was actually a corporate event (ask any entertainer or performance artist about their most embarrassing gig, it’ll be a corporate gig they took ‘just for the money’) where I was hired to roller skate around shopping malls and winter markets dressed in a huge foam Christmas bauble costume. I was lucky and (touch wood) have never fallen over at one of these events, but I have it on good authority that if you fall wearing one of these costumes, it’s pretty much impossible to get yourself back up - cue rallying the general public to give your bauble butt a boost back onto your skates. Cringe!

Dream themes I’d love to try
Some themes I would love to try are:
Wicked (always been a dream theme as it’s my favourite musical, but might not be too far off now the movie has come out!)
Outer Space: party on the moon
Enid Blyton’s ‘Magic Faraway Tree’
Agatha All Along (this has the added bonus of being able to buy an iconic Agatha coat as a tax deduction)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (with real chocolate river!)
So if you are hosting a party with any of these themes, PLEASE invite me along!
As promised, my favourite party theme is... drum roll please!…..
DISCO DANCE PARTY!!
For me, you just can’t beat a classic disco with a mix of top 40 and nostalgic bangers. Choreographed dances (Macarena anyone?) and the whole family getting up to boogie. Colourful lights, haze, bubbles. DJ booming “What’s up party people!!!!” And the kids building connections and memories with friends dancing and screaming to their favourite songs.

As an entertainer I offer the following themes: Disco (of course!), fairy, witch and clown. Plus I have tiny tots (ages 1-3 year olds) parties coming soon - think Ms Rachel meets the Wiggles. However, if you are looking for a different theme or want advice about which theme to choose, please do get in touch at info@hanafiesta.com - I have a lot of experience and imagination and we can work together to bring your dream theme to life.
